We are excited to announce that the brand-new Savick Library in Preston has officially opened its doors to the public.
This custom-built library, part of our regeneration project for the area, is the first new library to open in Lancashire in over a decade. Located on the site of the former Savick Library, which closed in 2020, the new facility is managed by Lancashire County Council's library service and serves the community of Ashton-on-Ribble.
On Monday 9th December 2024, members of the community joined local dignitaries to celebrate the library's opening. A special plaque was unveiled by Councillor Peter Buckley, cabinet member for Community and Cultural Services, and Councillor Alf Clempson, Vice Chairman of Lancashire County Council. Guests included our Director of Customer and Communities Louise Mattinson, the Mayor of Preston Councillor Phil Crowe, local councillors, members of the Savick Library Community Friends group and residents.
Louise Mattinson, CGA’s Executive Director of Customers and Communities, said:Councillor Phil Crowe, The Mayor of Preston, said:"We're delighted to see the opening of this fantastic library today, a project that's been a number of years in the making, working with the local community and our partners.
" As a community-based landlord we are committed to not only providing new homes for people, but also developing great communities, and we are confident that this building along with the new general convenience store next door will be a great hub for the community for many years to come."
Councillor Peter Buckley shared his excitement, saying:"It's a wonderful day celebrating the opening of Savick Library! This fantastic community space will be greatly used and loved by many. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributed to making this vision a reality.
